PBKS vs CSK 2025 Match Highlights: Big Runs and Close Finish

In a nail-biting contest at the PCA New International Cricket Stadium, Punjab Kings (PBKS) pulled off a thrilling 18-run victory over Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in Match 22 of the Indian Premier League 2025. The match was packed with fireworks, led by a sensational century from Priyansh Arya, supported by a composed finish from Shashank Singh, and a disciplined bowling performance that held firm under pressure.

Priyansh Arya’s Explosive Century

Put in to bat first by CSK, PBKS came out with clear intent. The spotlight of the evening undoubtedly belonged to Priyansh Arya, who produced one of the most explosive innings of the tournament so far. Arya smashed a jaw-dropping 103 off just 42 balls, peppering the boundary ropes with seven fours and nine sixes. His knock was not only aggressive but also incredibly composed under the circumstances.

Arya brought up his hundred in just 39 balls, making it the joint-fourth fastest century in IPL history. The innings injected energy into the PBKS camp and gave the fans at Mohali a spectacle to remember. Despite a few quick wickets at the other end, Arya’s fearless strokeplay ensured the scoreboard kept ticking.

Middle Order Wobbles, But Shashank Holds Firm

At one point, PBKS found themselves in a spot of bother at 83/5, as CSK bowlers clawed their way back into the game. But Shashank Singh, showing maturity beyond his years, stood tall amid the collapse. He played a critical role in stabilizing the innings with an unbeaten 52 off 36 deliveries.

Shashank, along with Marco Jansen (34 off 19), stitched together a crucial late partnership that pushed Punjab’s total to a formidable 219/6, the highest total ever recorded at this venue. The calculated aggression in the death overs was instrumental in giving PBKS a psychological edge heading into the chase.

CSK’s Chase Starts Strong, But Loses Steam

Chasing a mammoth target of 220, CSK needed a solid start—and they got one. The opening duo of Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra gave CSK early momentum, reaching 59/0 by the end of the powerplay. The left-handed pair rotated the strike well and punished loose deliveries, putting pressure back on PBKS.

However, PBKS’s bowlers stuck to their plans. The spinners tightened the screws in the middle overs, and the pacers picked up timely wickets. Despite some resistance in the later stages of the innings, CSK never quite regained the momentum they needed. The asking rate kept climbing, and pressure eventually led to mistakes.

CSK finished at 201/5 in 20 overs, falling 18 runs short. The match was closely contested, but it was PBKS who held their nerve when it mattered most.

Skippers Speak: Arya’s Knock Steals the Show

PBKS skipper Shreyas Iyer was all praise for Priyansh Arya during the post-match presentation. “That was one of the top knocks I’ve seen in the IPL. Pure class and aggression combined,” Iyer said. He emphasized how the team is focused on backing players to play their natural game and trusting their instincts.

On the other side, CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad admitted that the team let the game slip in the middle overs. “We had the platform, but couldn’t capitalize. Credit to PBKS for their bowling in the death,” he remarked.

What This Win Means for PBKS

With this emphatic win, PBKS moves up the IPL 2025 points table, solidifying their credentials as serious playoff contenders. The team has shown it possesses the firepower to post huge totals and the composure to defend them.

For CSK, this defeat is a wake-up call. While there were positives in the batting effort, especially from the openers, the middle-order performance and death-overs execution remain areas of concern. They’ll need to quickly regroup and rethink their strategies going forward.
