RCB vs DC 2025: RCB’s Batting Collapse Overshadows Tim David’s Late Flourish in Defeat to Delhi Capitals
In a disappointing outing at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) slumped to another home defeat in IPL 2025, this time at the hands of Delhi Capitals (DC). Despite a blistering start and Tim David’s late fireworks, RCB’s middle-order collapse handed the momentum to the visitors, who chased down the target of 164 with six wickets in hand.
A Dream Start Turns Sour for RCB
Put in to bat first, RCB got off to a dream start with openers Philip Salt and Devdutt Padikkal going after the bowling right from the first over. Salt was in particularly aggressive form, racing to 40 off just 14 balls. RCB had raced to 61/0 within the first four overs and looked well on their way to a massive total.
However, the momentum shifted drastically after Salt’s untimely run-out, which exposed RCB’s vulnerability once again. His dismissal triggered a chain reaction — with Padikkal, Rajat Patidar, and Virat Kohli all falling cheaply. From 61/0, RCB crashed to 91/4 by the halfway mark, squandering their early advantage.
The collapse not only slowed down the scoring rate but also allowed DC’s bowlers to dictate terms in the middle overs. The pressure was palpable, and the middle order failed to rise to the occasion.

Tim David’s Lone Stand
While wickets kept tumbling around him, Tim David once again stood tall for RCB. Coming in during a crisis, the Australian power-hitter kept his composure and assessed the pitch before launching into a late assault. In the final two overs, David smashed 36 runs, finishing unbeaten on 37 off 20 balls — an innings laced with clean strikes and smart running.
His finishing flourish ensured RCB crossed the 160-run mark, ending at 163/7 in their 20 overs. While David’s effort gave RCB something to bowl at, it still felt below par on a ground known for high scores.
Delhi Capitals’ Disciplined Bowling Performance
Delhi Capitals deserve immense credit for how they clawed their way back into the contest. After a horror start with the ball, their spinners and medium pacers adjusted their lengths and utilized the two-paced nature of the pitch effectively.
Kuldeep Yadav was the standout performer, using his variations to pick up crucial wickets and strangle RCB’s middle order. Vipraj Nigam, with his smart change of pace and consistent line, kept things tight and built pressure. The duo combined to choke RCB’s scoring rate during the middle overs, which proved pivotal in shaping the match’s outcome.
Axar Patel and Khaleel Ahmed also chipped in with economical spells, ensuring that the explosive start by Salt did not snowball into something bigger. failed to read and assess the conditions tonight” . Despite Tim David’s commendable performance, RCB’s inability to build on their strong start remains a concern.
How's that for a response? 😎

DC Chase with Composure
Chasing 164, Delhi Capitals approached the target methodically. Prithvi Shaw and David Warner gave them a steady start, rotating the strike well and pouncing on the occasional bad ball. Though RCB managed to pick up a couple of wickets during the middle overs, the pressure was never enough to derail DC’s chase.
Rishabh Pant, returning to form, anchored the innings with a composed 44, guiding the Capitals home in 18.3 overs. His shot selection and match awareness were vital in keeping the chase on track.
RCB’s Home Woes Continue
With this defeat, RCB has now lost back-to-back games at their home venue in the 2025 season. Captain Rajat Patidar admitted in the post-match presentation that the team failed to adapt to the conditions. “We didn’t read the pitch well. After a strong start, we lost too many wickets in a cluster. Credit to Tim David for getting us to a respectable total, but we need to take responsibility as a unit,” Patidar said.
What’s Next
RCB will need to regroup quickly as they prepare for their next away game against Rajasthan Royals — a crucial fixture if they want to stay in playoff contention. For Delhi Capitals, the win boosts their confidence and strengthens their position in the standings. With consistent contributions across departments, DC is slowly emerging as one of the teams to beat this season.
